Support Slot Opportunities

Support Slots

At Launceston Folk Club we understand how challenging it can be to get exposure as a musician, particularly as singer/songwriters in a world where many people want to have a sing and dance along with popular songs we all know and love.

While we love a good covers band along with the rest, we are trying to achieve something a little different at the folk club where we want to give musicians who play original material and/or interpretations of traditional music, an opportunity to perform for an audience who will sit and listen.

As a support artist, you will have the opportunity to play on the same stage as some of the UK’s, and in many cases the world’s, most talented musicians, get to meet them and perform for their audiences, gain access to our network of connections, and be included in promotional material.

We are particularly keen to give priority to musicians who live in the South West, and welcome those who appreciate the core values and ethos of ALFCIC which include friendship, generosity of spirit, support, hope, advocacy, and personal responsibility, and understand that our primary purpose is to be of service to our community in whichever way we can.

How to get a support slot

In the first instance, please contact Chris Hytch who has very kindly offered to select and advise supporting artists at: chris@alfcic.org

Chris is a local singer/songwriter who founded the duo Annown and he writes beautiful songs about Cornwall and Cornish life, past and present. He has also worked in the record industry for many years.

Please send Chris information about your act and links to any online material, if you have it. Also let us know where we can see you playing live.

Please be aware that while many of our acts are happy to have support slots, some acts might select the support slot themselves, or even disallow supports altogether and we are contractually obliged to respect their choice and there is no judgement about that at all.

We would love to put everyone on stage if we could but we simply do not have the capacity to do so and therefore need to be selective.

We will be running showcase events throughout the year where you can come along and perform a few songs, get in front of Chris, and meet us all, as well as have a lot of fun! 🙂

As a charitable organisation, we will try and cover mileage expenses as a minimum and, where ticket sales on the night allow, will always aim to increase that where possible once folk club costs have been covered. We are fair and transparent. Any profits go to work in the community with those struggling with PTSD/trauma.

We hope that you will share responsibility for promoting yourselves when playing at the event and we will pass on any links and materials where we have published your information for you to use when promoting your slot and do feel free to create your own if you wish.

We look forward to welcoming you to the club and enabling you to progress your career by offering this opportunity. Please do join the mailing list and keep abreast of upcoming acts as well as other opportunities that might come up that are relevant to your musical journey.
